Exhibition News and Happy New Year!
I have just returned from a few weeks away. I travelled to Tunisia to see the mosaics of Ancient Roman Africa, in particular Carthage, the Punic Village of Kerkouane and the wonderful mosaics and Colosseum of El Jem then went to the Naples area to see the sites of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Stabiae. From there went to Rome to spend just over a week looking at mosaics and art. In particular the site of Ostia Antica. It was a wonderful holiday and of course very inspiring.
I look forweard to making new works inspired by what I have seen.
The gallery has just been re-hung and works on paper both paintings and etchings are currently on show.
Please call me on 03 9557 2688 if you would like to visit the gallery and of course the Birds of a Feather Courtyard!

Birds of a Feather Mosaic Wall Project
in conjunction with the
MAANZ 2009
Birds of a Feather Exhibition
You are invited along with family and friends to participate in the collaborative project titled Birds of a Feather.
This collaborative community project will involve the general public and mosaic community to mosaic the rear wall of the Pamela Irving Studio + Gallery, with bird images.
The project will take place at the Pamela Irving Studio + Gallery, for the duration of the MAANZ Birds of a Feather Exhibition.
The exhibition runs from 15 March – 29 March 2009. Gallery hours are:
Tues to Fri 10am – 5pm ; and Sat, and Sun 15 March 10am – 4pm
The exhibition opens on Sunday 15 March 2009, 2pm – 4pm with an afternoon tea and Rob Hudson MP, Member for Bentleigh, to open the exhibition and launch the mosaic wall project.
General public, mosaic enthusiasts and friends are invited to participate in the mosaic wall project which will begin Sunday 15 March at 11am and continue until the exhibition closes. Participants are invited to work on their tiles anytime during gallery hours between 15 March – 29 March.
The Birds of a Feather Mosaic Wall project will consist of a series of mosaic tiles of bird images. The bird images may be realistic, mythological, or a copy from the past whatever you like! It is planned that enough tiles will be produced over the two weeks to cover the rear wall. The size of the wall is approximately 6 metres x 5 metres with gaps for doors.
Participants are asked to pay $10 per tile to participate. They will receive tuition, all materials and freedom to create a mosaic tile depicting a bird of their choice.
The tile remains at the gallery for installation onto the wall. Participants are invited to return to the gallery during the exhibition to grout their own tile.
A list of people who participated in the collaborative project will be kept and an acknowledgement of their participation noted. A plaque or a painted sign may be installed at a later stage acknowledging participants’ involvement.
All money collected for this project will go to MAANZ. Pamela Irving of the Pamela Irving Gallery + Studio will pay for all materials associated with the cost of this project.
Five mentorees will be working with Pamela to assist in every aspect of the project, including: assisting participants who turn up to contribute, helping with design and grouting. The mentorees will be involved in the overall production, construction and full installation of the project.
The five mentorees are;
